Abstract
Background: Atherosclerosis of coronary arteries is one of the most important problems for clinical aviationmedicine. In this paper the problem of early diagnosing of coronary atherosclerosis was discussed.
Case Report: The case of a 34-year-old supersonic pilot with silent coronary artery disease well resistant to physical effort and +Gz accelerations was described. The pilot was loaded only with one of the commonly assessing atherosclerosis risk factors. The total cholesterol (T-CH) concentration was
within the level of 4,4-8,1mmol/l with average 6,4mmol/l. for 14 years. Extended atherosclerotic
changes in the coronary arteries together with the stenosis of their lumen (up to 70-95%) were
diagnosed in this pilot.
Conclusions: The necessity of exercise stress test (EST) and once a year its performance in supersonic pilots and as well as the need of restricting the aviomedical criteria in qualifying candidates for military aviation training.
