Abstract
Background: Recruitment of unilateral atelectasis with double lumen endotracheal tube having Y-connector
of different diameters.
Case Report: Our patient, in whom atelectasis developed on the 5th postoperative day of the correction operation performed for idiopathic kyphoscoliosis, was intubated and connected to a ventilator. Ventilation was continued with positive end expiratory pressure. Blood gas levels did not improve, and the patient was intubated with a double-lumen endotracheal tube. Since the patient’s clinical
findings and blood gas values showed no improvement, a Y-connector of different diameters was connected to the double lumen tube. The improvement in the patient’s clinical findings, chest radiograms and blood gas values.
Conclusions: When conventional methods prove insufficiency in the treatment of persistent atelectasis, ventilation with double lumen endotracheal tube having the Y-connector of different diameters may be an alternative method.
