Abstract

Background: Isolated non-teratomatous glial tissue is a rare entity. Majority of cases are seen in proximity to neuraxis in neonates. Only a few cases of the glial heterotopia in adults have been reported. Uterine cervix is a rare site of glial heterotopia in adults and only a few such cases have been reported. To the best of our knowledge, so far no such case has been reported previously
from Pakistan.
Case Report: A 36 year old lady presented with postcoital and intermenstrual bleeding. Two years back she had abortion followed by dilatation and curettage. On per vaginal examination she was found to have a cervical polyp. A histopathological diagnosis of non-teratomatous glial heterotopia of uterine cervix was made. Positivity of the glial tissue for glial fibrillary acidic
protein (GFAP) and S-100 protein confirmed the diagnosis.
Conclusions: These glial heterotopic masses are benign and the surgical excision done as a part of management is usually curative.
