Abstract
Background: Endometriosis is the presence of functional endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Scar endometriosis is a rare entity and difficult to diagnose. It mostly follows obstetrical and gynecological surgeries. This condition is often confused with other surgical conditions. Since scar endometriosis is rarely seen by general surgeons, we would like to present our case that was referred to us by diagnosis of incisional hernia.
Case Report: We report a case of scar endometriosis in a cesarean scar that was successfully treated with complete excision of the lesion. Our patient was referred to our general surgery clinic from gynecology clinic by diagnosis of incisional hernia. The pain and mass were the main complaints in the present case.
Conclusions: Since endometriosis is mostly diagnosed by histological examination postoperatively, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of abdominal wall masses and adequate surgery must be performed in order to prevent recurrences.
