Abstract
Background: Alpha-adrenergic blocking agents used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia have been reported as rare effect of priapism. Although previously reported as an adverse event in a patient with spinal cord injurry and otherwise healthy man.
Case Report: We report a case of recurrent priapism who has taken terazosin for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Priapism resolved after a combination of by corporeal blood aspiration and irrigation with iced saline and phenylephrine.
Conclusions: Priapism has been reported as rare effect of the used Alpha-adrenergic blocking agents through direct inhibition of the sympathetic input necessary for detumescence. We report a case of recurrent priapism who has taken terazosin for benign (BPH).
