Abstract

Background: Pleomorphic adenomas are the most common non-malignant tumours of the salivary glands. In 2% of cases, a mixed tumour will change into a malignant mixed tumour. The occurrence of pleomorphic adenomas or malignant pleomorphic adenomas in the nasal cavity, especially on the nasal septum, is very rare.
Case Report: In this article, we present two very rare cases of nasal septum pleomorphic adenomas and describe their medical treatment. The fi rst case deals with a pleomorphic adenomas of the nasal septum treated with an endoscope. The second case is a malignant pleomorphic adenoma of the nasal septum, which was removed with lateral rhinotomy approach.
Conclusions: There are no established standards for diagnosing and treating such cases. An endoscopic approach can be used successfully in the treatment of pleomorphic adenomas that develop from the nasal septum. Due to the fact that malignant pleomorphic adenomas have a very unfavourable prognosis, they require more radical treatment. Individualised therapeutic approaches should be emphasised in cases where there are no guidelines for diagnosis and therapy, such as those that are atypically located and unusually severe. In this paper we introduced practical value of pleomorphic adenoma treatment.
