Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
Case Report: In this paper we report a 55 year old woman who presented with a gastric stromal tumor and
colorectal adenocarcinoma with immunohistochemistry analysis of c-kit expression.
Conclusions: The recent understanding on their molecular pathogenesis, namely common presence of
activating mutations in the gene encoding KIT, may have significant clinical importance, making
it necessary to accurately define and clinically diagnose GISTs and separate them from other
mesenchymal tumors of the abdomen. There have been reports of this tumor occurring with other conditions and tumors.
