Background: Melioidosis is a rare disease that is fast gaining notoriety. There have been an increasing number of cases reported in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and even Singapore. While cases reported are commonly adults with predisposing factors such as diabetes mellitus, renal disease or HIV, our report is of a previously healthy 10-year-old boy who presented with a non-healing and discharging gluteal wound present for 6 months.
Case Report: We report on a patient in whom adjunctive negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) was effectively used in the management of a 10-year-old paediatric patient with chronic Burkholderia pseudomallei-infected gluteal wound.
Conclusions: NPWT was successfully used as an adjunct to manage a chronic melioidosis-infected chronic gluteal wound.
